2007 Flintlock
2007) DUTCH FLINTLOCK 4 BARREL VOLLEY PISTOL CIRCA 1800’s:
Introduction: This 4-barrel 10mm Dutch flintlock volley pistol is a distinctive type of 4-barreled pistol. The barrel moves in a circular motion when you pull the trigger guard back. So each barrel fires individually. It’s not a pepperbox where all barrels fire at the same time.
They were often used by naval officers or for personal defense to hit multiple targets in close quarters. This type of weapon illustrates the technical development of multi-barreled firing mechanisms in the 1800’s.|
Discussion: This type of weapon illustrates the technical development of multi-barreled firing technology during the late flintlock era, emphasizing maximum close-range stopping power before the widespread adoption of reliable repeating firearms.
The single flintlock mechanism ignites the powder in a shared pan, which then flashes into the touchhole. The barrels are fixed in a square cluster and rotate after ignition. The lock plate is richly engraved; the stunning blackened wood stock and embossed metal butt plate were common for higher-quality firearms of the late 1700s and early 1800’s.
Dimensions: Length: 275 mm.
Caliber: 10 mm
Conclusion: Overall, it’s a striking and historically interesting example of transitional firearm engineering. A very interesting conversation piece in very good condition and very reasonably priced.
