1792 Aumbry

1792) MASSIVE GOTHIC CATHEDRAL MARBLE AUMBRY:

Discussion: A tabernacle is a secure, locked, stand-alone, rectangular, or dome-shaped vessel that houses the holy eucharist (host) for the Catholic communion. A similar version of the tabernacle that serves the same purpose is an “aumbry,” which is a flat cabinet in the wall of a Christian church. The Roman Catholic church has always been intertwined with nobility, chivalry, intrigue, and knighthood, and this would make a great addition to any Arms and Armor collection.

Provenance:
-Deaccessioned from a U.S. art museum (No. 27.53) to raise funds for a significant purchase.
-By tradition from a bombed Cathedral during WWII.
Description: Finely chiseled in marble, representing the front facade of the cathedral , including the front decorated gable. The Virgin Mary is on one side of the door, on the other, Joseph, with Jesus above the door as if visiting from heaven.
Approximate dimensions: At its tallest 27.5 inches, width 22.1 inches, depth 4.5 inches.
Condition: Very good as shown.
Conclusion: This is a massive item weighing about 150 LBS, so it may not be suitable for your coffee table. However, it is an exceptional conversation piece, and probably no one you know will own one. You get a lot of value for the money.
The stories this item could tell if only it could speak. As always, I pay for shipping, so don’t be concerned about the items’ cost to ship. ACT-NOW I will probably not offer another one again. Priced to sell immediatly!!!*
